BIOTYPE DIAGNOSTIC LAUNCHES TEST TO ANALYZE HOUSE-ROT AND TIMBER FUNGI

A new technique is now available for analyzing fungi attacking timber in buildings. Biotype Diagnostic GmbH from Dresden has developed a biochip system that can identify the 27 main types of house-rot fungi. Instead of taking a matter of days, even mixed samples containing different types of fungi can now be analyzed within just a few hours in a single assay. “This DNA chip technology provides more accurate information much faster for homeowners, surveyors and heritage authorities about whether building components have been attacked by house-rot fungus,” says Dr. Wilhelm Zörgiebel, CEO of Biotype Diagnostic GmbH.
