Leipzig the CYTO 2012 venue
It is the worldwide most important event for cytodiagnostics: the Congress of the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry(ISAC), with headquarters in the USA. For the first time for more than 30 years, the Society will return to Germany with its congress. Elmau Castle was the place of the first congress in 1978.
More than 1,000 scientists and experts of the industry from the entire world are expected to come to the Congress Center Leipzig (CCL) from June 2 – 6, 2012. The ISAC decision substantiates the qualities of the location even for US hosts. The World Congress will escort an exhibition where developments of the cytoanalytics and scientific facilities, as well as networks will be presented.
For CYTO 2012, Leipzig was able to prevail over cities such as Amsterdam, Madrid, Prague and Vienna – and finally over the second ranking Glasgow. The scientific potential of the Free State of Saxony, the industrial cluster of the region and the excellent infrastructure of the congress location were convincing.
The initiator of the Leipzig application and its most important advocate is Prof. Dr. Attila Tarnok, internationally among the leading experts on the field of analytic cytology and working at the Herzzentrum Leipzig (Heart Center) for some years now.
biosaxony, too, contributed to the successful application, e.g. by obtaining the support of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and organizing the visit to the location.
The Region could take significant advantage from the ISAC Congress, because positive impulses are being expected for the biomedical and biological research.
Furthermore, Leipzig will be the venue of EuroMedTech from June 1 – 3, 2010, one of the most important partnering congresses in the field of medical technology.
