SURVEY AMONG BIOTECHS REVEALS STRONG GROWTH IN 2010 DESPITE FINANCIAL CRISIS
Once again, the German biotech industry has proved to be a very robust sector by successfully weathering the financial crisis. Last year, the number of employees exceeded 30,000 for the first time according to the annual company survey carried out throughout Germany by biotechnologie.de on behalf of the BMBF German Ministry of Education and Research. The findings were unveiled at a press conference held in Berlin on April 21 during the German Biotechnology Conference. Meanwhile the revenue and research expenditure of the 531 (dedicated) biotech firms remained constant in 2009. The only fly in the ointment was that venture capital investment dropped to a new low.
