Internationally oriented, interdisciplinary university and private offers for advanced education, in addition to different seminars, workshops and conferences provide optimum opportunities to integrate newest developments and trends into own scientific and economic activities.
In cooperation with its network partners, biodresden and BIO-NET LEIPZIG as well as teaching institutes and research institutes, biosaxony promotes interdisciplinarity and cooperation within the industry in Saxony.
„Sächsischer Biotechnologietag (Saxon Biotechnology Day)“ and „Biotech Meets Public“
The annual „Sächsische Biotechnologietag“, organised by BBZ Leipzig and BIOTEC Dresden is dedicated to the exchange of information on special fields and the initiation of cooperation between scientists and companies.
„Biotech Meets Public“, a series of events organised by biosaxony which takes place twice a year, once in Dresden and once in Leipzig, is a platform committed to the exchange of opinions on exciting developments in biotechnological research and development in a relaxed atmosphere. This public forum is, in particular, dedicated to founders and decision-makers from companies active in the biotechnology, medical and health industry, as well as to representatives from politics and economy.
Education and Training
Biotechnology in Saxony’s Schools
Saxony’s pupils achieve top rankings in PISA tests. Today, biotechnology is a permanent part of Saxony’s educational system. Flexible offers aligned to the requirements of the industry prepare for modern training opportunities in biotechnologically oriented professions and for internationally wanted courses of studies and opportunities for achieving a PhD. Therefore, biotechnology companies in Saxony are able to continuously draw from a large pool of interdisciplinary trained and motivated young people.
Preschool children and adolescents are able to pursue their early interest in biotechnological subjects in an exciting atmosphere:
- the Initiative BIO-TE[A]CH
- the "Gläserne Labor" (Glass Laboratory) of the Deutsches Hygiene-Museums Dresden (German Hygiene Museum) or
- the KUBUS-Schülerlabor (Student Laboratory) of the Helmholtz-Zentrum für Umweltforschung Leipzig (UFZ – Centre for Environmental Research)
offer the possibility to perform trials and to look over the shoulder of scientists or biotechnology companies.
A total of three university preparatory schools in Saxony offer specific biotechnological knowledge to students on their way to Abitur (university entrance certificate). Students at colleges in Saxony are able to enrol both in most different interdisciplinary studies and are offered a number of opportunities for specialisation. Combinations such as physics and medicine, material science and biology are nothing out of the ordinary in Saxony.
