German cluster alliance networks biotech and medical technology: Collaboration launched between biosaxony and BioRegio STERN Management GmbH

Cooperation between biosaxony and BioRegio STERN Management GmbH from Stuttgart was launched at a kick-off meeting in Dresden in March 2015. The cross-cluster initiative "Medical Technology Action Plan" is supported by funding from the go-cluster program of the BMWi Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy jointly applied for by the collaborating clusters.

The two clusters’ goal is to strengthen and develop medical technology in their respective regions. For one thing, networking the clusters is expected to create new possibilities for cooperation between businesses and researchers from both regions. Moreover, medical technology is to be networked with biotechnology more closely than before, enabling new fields of innovation to be identified. The attractiveness of the medical technology sector for biotech companies will increase, while medical technology companies will be able to achieve new product innovations by working with the biotechnology sector.

biosaxony will set up an organizational structure for medical technology companies in Saxony, from which – if deemed necessary by the actors – a separate network will emerge. This structure will be accompanied by various services, such as focused support for product development and product marketing, raising the sector’s profile in Germany and abroad, and creating an information portal for players. In a status survey, all medical technology actors in Saxony will first be identified and categorized by type of institution and areas of focus.

Being a tool for Saxon companies and research centers, the planned medical technology network relies on active participation by committed stakeholders. biosaxony hopes very much that you, too, will play an active role!
